ACTIONS
This action will address the modelling and simulation of the MWSM shock machine, available at the Ferrol Shipyard.
The machine is used to carry out shock tests on ship-mounted and supply chain equipment, and is designed to subject the equipment to the accelerations it would have to withstand in the event of a nearby explosion.
The machine consists of a frame, to which the equipment to be tested can be attached, either in a horizontal or inclined position, and a pendulum, which can be raised to the desired height within a certain range.
The problem is that it is not easy to predict what accelerations the equipment will experience when the test is carried out, so the equipment manufacturer cannot be informed, and must prepare the equipment to withstand unknown accelerations.
This means that, in many cases, the test accelerations are not as expected by the manufacturer, which leads to oversizing or even the destruction of the equipment, with the consequent loss of time and money.
The present line of research seeks to alleviate this problem by modelling the machine and equipment, and simulating the test, so that the level of acceleration that the equipment will have to withstand during the test can be predicted with acceptable precision, and the manufacturer can be informed of this in advance.
